The Argentinian state of Cordoba has made a significant move toward making online gaming legal. The legislative body has passed a proposal that will permit casino games, sports wagering, and lotteries. The proposal was first put forward last December and aims to put an end to unlawful gambling operations.
The governor now has the final decision on whether to make the proposal into law. If he does, Cordoba will join Buenos Aires Province and the City of Buenos Aires in permitting online gambling. Buenos Aires Province already granted licenses to seven operators last year, while the City of Buenos Aires operators began their work just last month.
The new legislation in Cordoba will permit businesses to create their own online gambling products. They can apply for licenses that will be valid for up to 20 years, but only five licenses will be granted. The proposal also opens the door for foreign businesses to participate, but they must partner with a local business and cannot own more than 35% of the operation.
The proposal also has some rules for players. You must be 18 years old to gamble online and register your details with the business. Businesses are required to keep player information for up to five years after the customer stops using their services.
Ethical gaming programs have been incorporated into legislation, permitting players to establish deposit caps, set self-exclusion boundaries, and activate notifications that signal prolonged session durations.
The regulation forbids gambling promotions unless explicitly authorized by the gaming regulator.
