The United Kingdom’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) determined a Jeffbet advertisement to be misleading. The offer, which stated “Wager £10, Receive £30 in Complimentary Wagers,” did not explicitly convey that it was exclusively available to new users of the ProgressPlay network, rather than just Jeffbet.
A patron, who was new to Jeffbet but not the ProgressPlay network, filed a complaint after being refused the bonus. Jeffbet contended that the details were included in the terms and conditions, but the ASA disagreed, stating the advertisement itself should have been more transparent. The ASA stressed that the phrase “new players only” suggested new customers to Jeffbet in particular. They also believed the advertisement should have directly referenced the ProgressPlay network and its numerous gaming platforms, including Jeffbet.
The UKs advertising watchdog, the ASA, reprimanded Jeffbet for an ad campaign deemed deceptive to consumers regarding a bonus offer. The promotion, as presented, allegedly gave the impression that all new registrants were assured a bonus, which was inaccurate. The ASA instructed Jeffbet to cease the campaign and ensure future promotional materials clearly articulate all terms and conditions to prevent any misunderstanding.
Separately, the outlook appears bleak for Casino Cosmopol, a group of land-based casinos operating in Sweden. The Swedish government is contemplating shuttering the venues due to their failure to generate sufficient revenue.
