The gaming industry in Belgium was once quite the unregulated domain, according to legal authority Roland Loschke, the top dog at the Belgian Gaming Commission. Although regulations have been strengthened lately, Loschke doesn’t anticipate Belgium following Italy’s lead and prohibiting gambling promotions entirely.
He perceives the updated regulations, taking effect on the first of June, as a method to establish order in the untamed landscape of Belgian gaming. These regulations will impose significant restrictions on the promotional activities of gambling entities, such as confining online casinos to their own platforms for advertising.
Loschke explicitly stated that Belgium is not aiming to eliminate gambling like Italy. He views the Italian strategy as a purely political maneuver. His perspective, as shared with Gambling Insider magazine, is that outright bans are ineffective. He cited drugs, alcohol, and tobacco as illustrations. For Loschke, the focus is on bringing order to the industry and ensuring clear guidelines are in place.
